Based on your cutting application:

We recommend teeth for your blade.

At ColdSawBladeStore.com, the question we get asked most often is, “How many teeth do I need for my application?” When we hear this, we walk through a series of questions with the customer to narrow down the exact parameters of their application — including their machine make and model, the blade size required, the material being cut, and the size, shape, and dimensions of the workpiece.

To make that process easier, we’ve built this simple cold saw blade calculator. Just answer each question, and it will point you to the right tooth count for your specific application.

If you’re cutting more than one shape or size of material, it’s usually fine to average the results from two or three different applications. The exception is when one result is an outlier. For example, if you’re getting tooth counts of 100, 140, and 300, that 300 is an outlier — averaging all three wouldn’t give you the best blade for any of them. In that case, the better approach is to average the two closest values (100 and 140) to land on 120 teeth, giving you one cold saw blade that handles both of those applications efficiently.

Please keep in mind that while this calculator is a great starting point, it may not land on a perfect tooth count for every situation. The material field helps us understand your application, but the final calculation is based on carbon steel as the baseline — so if you’re cutting something harder or softer, we’d recommend reaching out to us directly. We can help you find the right blade and tooth count for your specific material, since hardness and abrasiveness both play a role in getting the best performance and blade life.

As a quick example: if you’re cutting aluminum, just multiply the result by 0.75 to get the appropriate tooth count for your chosen shape and size.
